Dave Whitty – Musician, Storyteller, East Coast Original
Dave Whitty is a singer-songwriter from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, known for his heartfelt lyrics, folky storytelling, and deep East Coast roots. Since launching his solo career in 2012, he has released four albums, with the most recent, Long Way to Go, released in 2024, and has built a loyal fan base through his dynamic live performances and genuine connection to home.

Dave’s music is a celebration of Newfoundland’s spirit, capturing its beauty, resilience, and one-of-a-kind way of life. His songs draw on real-life experiences, weaving clever lyrics, emotion, and humour into vivid stories that connect with audiences. Whether sharing tales of youthful misadventures or reflecting on love and loss, Dave’s balance of laughter, nostalgia, joy, and heartbreak has made him a standout voice in the Canadian folk scene.

A self-taught guitarist with a distinct playing style, Dave has performed across Canada and beyond, with notable appearances at Iceberg Alley, George Street Festival, and the East Coast Music Awards. For over a decade, he has also held a winter residency in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Beyond music, Dave is the director and narrator of East Harbour Heroes on Discovery Channel, a series that highlights the lives of working Newfoundlanders. The show’s opening theme features his own song “Pirates,” underscoring his passion for storytelling and East Coast culture. On stage or on screen, Dave Whitty brings the heart and humour of Newfoundland to everything he does.
